History

MSSC is a leading maritime charity, created in 2004 when the Marine Society merged with the Sea Cadet Association.

The Marine Society and Sea Cadets share a similar history. Founded in 1756 and 1856 respectively, both aimed to support destitute children. The Marine Society gave children the skills they needed to work aboard the King’s ships. The Sea Cadets gave young people naval-themed training, many of who had been orphaned as a result of the Crimean war in the 1850s.

MSSC is a charity, our biggest supporter is the RN and we are grateful for donations and support from donors large and small. Their contributions are vital to the success of our continuing work.

It means for Sea Cadets we offer an environment where they can challenge themselves and find inspiration. Building their confidence as they develop key life skills that will enable them to get the best possible head start in life through us.

And through the Marine Society we make vital education and financial support accessible for seafarers – we believe that where ever you are seafarers shouldn't miss out on vital opportunities .Our book service allows ships crews to access libraries which nurture well being, enhance safety at sea and encourage personal development.
